Match report written by Jim Crompton - Saxons Team Manager
A belated and brief breakdown of an amazingly eventful Saxons weekend with debuts,
goals, grit and a farewell for Arish.
The magic weekend saw the club field sides in Coventry, Bolton, Manchester and
Northampton.
Beautiful Bolton was the perfect setting for the Saxons final three matches and they saved
the best till last.
As if staying at the ‘field of dreams’ home to Bolton Wanderers was not
enough the Saxons faced the top three sides in the league Coventry, Caledonia and the full
might of the unbeaten British Army.
A small squad made the long trip for the early game on the Saturday and were off to a flying
start against Coventry with two goals from the whippy left arm of Arish, he was to make great use of this in Boltons bars and clubs that evening.
The early promise was not sustained and both Coventry and Caledonia deservedly won, even if the scoreline flattered them.
The Saturday games saw the Saxons score some great goals, the return of Alun and debuts for Luka Atkinson, Vuk and Ilija.
After the evening team meal Arish and Luka Atkinson ventured out on a safari of the Bolton
Wildlife.
Despite not heeding my warning to stay on the ‘corporation pop’ they made it back
in time for breakfast.
Arish said he had fun but would not be going out in Bolton again.
Refuelled and refreshed the Saxons Army faced the challenge of the British Army and gave
them a battle royale.
Ending the first quarter all square and the third quarter only two goals
adrift (11-13).
The Armies larger squad number finally paid dividends and they edge clear in
a very close encounter, the Saxons certainly gave them a fright.
After the Christmas break there will be plenty of action for the Saxons with both the
NCWPL and London league seeing fixtures on 18th , 19th 20th , 24th and 29th of January!
